Tutorial Instructions for Soldering Electronic Components Using a Soldering Iron

Oct 18, 2022

Technology of Welding

The fusion of metal conductors and solder, which is frequently utilized in the construction of electronic circuits, is referred to as welding technology in this context. A lead-tin alloy called solder has a melting point of roughly 183 degrees. Commercially available solders are frequently formed into filaments or strips, and some solders also include rosin, which is more practical to use.

1. How to hold the soldering iron

There are two ways to hold the soldering iron: the pen method and the fist method.

(1), holding the pen. Suitable for lightweight soldering irons such as 30W internal heat. Its soldering iron tip is straight, and the tip is filed into a bevel or conical shape, which is suitable for soldering pads with a small area.

(2), the fist method. It is suitable for high-power soldering irons. We generally do not use high-power soldering irons for electronic production (not introduced here).

2. Several methods of soldering leads on printed circuit boards.

There are two types of printed circuit boards: single-sided and double-sided. The through holes on it are generally non-metallized, but in order to make the components soldered on the circuit board more firmly and reliably, most of the through holes of printed circuit boards of electronic products are now metallized. The method of soldering the leads on the ordinary single board:

(1) Straight-through cutting head. The leads pass directly through the through holes. When soldering, a suitable amount of molten solder is evenly surrounded by the tinned leads above the pads to form a cone shape. After it cools and solidifies, cut off the excess leads. (See the blackboard for the specific method)

(2), directly buried. The leads that go through the through-holes are exposed for only the proper length, and the molten solder buries the lead ends in the solder joints. This kind of solder joint is approximately hemispherical. Although it is beautiful, special attention should be paid to preventing virtual soldering.
