A multimeter measures any circuit electronic components. Before your test leads come into contact with the electronic circuit components, you must first check the status of the multimeter. For example, if you measure DC voltage, you must set it to the DC voltage level. If you don’t know what the circuit voltage is. How big, first shift the gear to the highest gear. If you are measuring AC voltage, you must set it to the relevant AC level. If you don’t know the voltage, you must first set it to the highest level to measure. After measuring the data by setting it to the highest gear, adjust the gear as needed for accurate measurement. I remind everyone to check the status of the multimeter to prevent some people from directly measuring the voltage when the multimeter is a resistor or capacitor, which may cause a short circuit and burn something. Therefore, before measuring anything, you must develop a habit, which is to check the gear status of the multimeter and confirm that it is correct before measuring.

1. The sharpest possible multimeter tip
When I was still in school, I followed a habit of my senior brother, that is, I like to polish the metal front ends of all my multimeter pens very sharply. The sharp multimeter pen tips can contact the circuit board as small as possible. For some small-area chip components, measurement can prevent the pen tip from being too thick and accidentally touching adjacent contacts.


2. Find extra black pens and transform them into alligator clips
Find a pair of extra test leads, cut off the black test lead, the end that holds the pen, and find an alligator clip to solder it on for later use. Of course, if you don’t want to make it yourself, you can buy ready-made ones, including red and black pens.


To measure the voltage of a circuit board, first determine whether the part of the circuit board to be measured is DC voltage or AC voltage. If it is DC voltage, first set the multimeter to the DC voltage measurement range, and then hold a black pen in one hand and the other in the other hand. Take the red pen and the black pen are both grounding terminals. Try to find a grounding point as close as possible that is easy to put in contact with. Generally, the grounding point is on a relatively large circuit board. The red pen is then separated to measure the circuit that needs to be measured. At this time, the sharper the multimeter tip is, the more convenient it will be to measure some fine chip component circuits. If it is inconvenient to hold the test leads separately with both hands, as we mentioned earlier, the prepared test leads with alligator clips can come in handy at this time. Connect the black test leads with alligator clips, and clip the alligator clips to the circuit board. On the ground point, the red test lead can be used to measure the entire DC circuit at will.


If you encounter a particularly thin circuit and do not have a sharp enough test pen tip, you can find a sewing needle and use an uninsulated thin copper wire to wrap the needle around the tip of the test pen, which can also be measured.
