What are the Core Technical Features of a Digital Multimeter?
This option is included in the 3706 and 3706-NFP mainframes. The high-performance digital multimeter is a hybrid design that integrates the low-noise front-end of the 2010 DMM and the high-speed design of the 2701. The digital multimeter supports 13 built-in measurement functions, including: DCV, ACV, DCI, ACI, frequency, period, 2-wire ohms, 3-wire RTD, 4-wire RTD, thermocouple, electrical thermistor, and continuity test.
It also includes a plethora of additional improvements and features, aiming to deliver a technologically superior and feature-rich digital multimeter that distinguishes itself from other integrated switch/digital multimeter solutions. Table 2 outlines the key improvements and features.
Why choose a 7.5-digit digital multimeter?
The 7.5-digit digital multimeter significantly enhances the Model 3706 mainframe compared to low-end data acquisition systems, expanding the system's capabilities to meet the needs of more advanced applications, such as system-level or rack-level signal benchmarking. The digital multimeter design offers high stability and precision, supporting lower ohms and current ranges than typical 6.5-digit digital multimeters. Furthermore, this provides us with a competitive measurement advantage over our main competitor, the Agilent 34980A. For the main features and advantages of the digital multimeter, please refer to Table 1.
An important application of the Model 3706 main unit is its use with the 2600 series digital source meters (in many cases, multiple digital source meters are used), which requires a simple and low-cost reference standard to check and verify each source measurement unit. The digital multimeter in the Model 3706 main unit can provide this capability.
The system advantages of having a benchmark-level 7.5-digit digital multimeter include: • High stability and precision for calibrating and monitoring other rack system equipment and instruments, • High-sensitivity ohmic testing for preventive monitoring of relays and interconnect devices, • All of this at a lower price than a typical 6.5-digit digital multimeter!
