In terms of accuracy, ultrasonic rangefinders provide centimeter-level measurement precision, while laser rangefinders deliver millimeter-level accuracy.
In terms of measuring range, the effective distance of ultrasonic rangefinders is generally within 80 meters. By contrast, handheld laser rangefinders can reach a maximum of 200 meters, and laser rangefinding telescopes are capable of measuring several hundred to several thousand meters or even farther. Nevertheless, the accuracy of laser telescopes is usually about one meter or tens of centimeters.
Ultrasonic rangefinders are prone to measurement errors. Since ultrasonic waves spread in a fan-shaped pattern, multiple obstacles in the detection area will generate complex reflected echoes and strong signal interference, leading to frequent misreadings. Laser rangefinders emit an extremely narrow laser beam; as long as the beam path is clear, external interference is nearly eliminated.
In terms of cost, ultrasonic rangefinders are priced from tens to hundreds of yuan. Laser rangefinders range from several hundred yuan to thousands or even tens of thousands of yuan, with prices varying greatly depending on accuracy and measuring distance.
