What is an optical microscope's maximum magnification?
The objective lens's max magnification of 1500 times sets a limit on the optical microscope's magnification.
Normally, the eyepiece group includes three lenses with a magnification of 5, 10, and 15 times, and the objective lens group has four lenses with magnifications of 4, 10, 40, and 100 times each. 100 x 15 = 1500 times the eyepiece magnification.
No matter how large it is, it will merely increase the eyepiece's magnification without adding any additional features, which is an incorrect magnification. It is comparable to using a magnifying glass to view a photo (the image of the objective lens). You won't be able to see the image that is not visible in the photo itself, no matter how huge the magnifying glass is. The optical microscope's basic design principle places a limit on this. It is essential to employ a microscope with additional features to reach a higher magnification, such as an electron microscope, which can theoretically attain 1000 times the power of an optical microscope.
