What is the principle of clamp ammeter

The clamp ammeter is mainly composed of a current transformer and an ammeter. It is used to complete the detection of the circuit current when the circuit is closed. It has multiple functions such as automatic shutdown, data retention, resistance/buzzer, and automatic zero return;

And it is easy to operate and easy to carry, especially because it does not need to disconnect the circuit, making it a necessary detection instrument in some cases.

Precautions for clamp ammeter operation:

1. When measuring the current below 5A, in order to make the measurement result more accurate, it is recommended to use the coil measurement;

2. Ensure that the jaws are clean and undamaged, so as not to affect the measurement results due to dirt;

3. Try to put the carrier fluid in the center of the jaw;

4. Do not use a clamp ammeter to measure the current of the exposed wire to avoid electric shock, short circuit, etc.

5. If you hear electromagnetic noise from the jaws during measurement, or feel a slight vibration in the hand holding the clamp ammeter, it means that the end faces of the jaws are not tightly bonded, or there may be rust or dirt. It should be cleaned immediately, otherwise inaccurate measurements will result.

6. The range cannot be changed while the current is being measured, and the range should be changed after the current is disconnected, otherwise the clamp ammeter is easily damaged and the measuring personnel are not safe.

Principle of clamp ammeter:

The clamp ammeter uses the working principle of mutual inductance. When the wrench is squeezed, the iron core of the current transformer is opened, and the measured current flows through the wire through the opening of the iron core. After the wrench is released, the iron core closes. The fixing of the measured wire has just been completed.

In the detection process, the wire passing through the iron core is regarded as the primary coil of the current transformer, and the current flows in the primary coil so that the current is also induced in the secondary coil;

The ammeter is connected to its secondary side, so the magnitude of the measured current in the primary side wire can be obtained through the display of the ammeter.
