What should be paid attention to when measuring the current with the clamp meter

Oct 28, 2022

(1) It is completely prohibited to use a low-voltage clamp-type meter to measure the current of a high-voltage loop. Instead, pay attention to the voltage level of the clamp-type ammeter while using a high-voltage clamp meter. A high-voltage clamp meter needs to be operated by two individuals when taking measurements. The second task sheet should be completed by the off-duty workers as well. To avoid a short circuit or grounding, they must stand on the insulating pad while measuring, wear insulating gloves, and avoid touching any other pieces of machinery.

(2) Special attention should be given to ensuring a secure space between the head and the live section when checking the watch's time. Any portion of the human body should be kept at least as far away from a live body as the clamp meter's whole length.

(3) It is not permitted to use a wire to connect a different meter from the clamp-type ammeter when measuring on a high-voltage circuit. The high-voltage cable should have good insulation and a distance between cable heads of at least 300mm when measuring the current of each phase.

(4) To prevent a short-circuit between phases while measuring the current of low-voltage fusible fuses or horizontally placed low-voltage busbars, each phase's fusible fuses or busbars should be shielded and separated with insulating materials prior to measurement.

(5) When one phase of the cable is grounded, measurements are absolutely forbidden. Avoid letting the low insulation level of the cable head and the possibility of ground breakdown explosion compromise your personal safety.

(6) Pull the switch to the maximum range after the clamp-type ammeter measurement is completed, so as to avoid accidental overcurrent in the next use; and it should be stored in a dry room.
