Which is better, infrared night vision or thermal imaging?

Infrared night vision cameras and thermal imagers are using different principles for observation, so their applicable scenes and advantages and disadvantages are also different, the specific choice can be based on the specific use of the scene and the needs of the decision.

Infrared night vision device can detect the infrared light reflected and scattered by the observed object, so as to realise the image of the object in the complete absence of a light source. Its advantages are that it can be observed in a very low illumination environment, observe objects at a long distance, and at a relatively low cost. However, the shortcomings of this equipment is limited by the natural light and the object being observed itself is different, the field environment when the temperature is low, the effect is reduced, the distance and resolution is not as good as the thermal imager.

Thermal imagers, on the other hand, utilise the infrared radiation naturally emitted from the surface of an object and use uncooled detectors for observation. It is capable of obtaining real-time images of the temperature distribution on the surface of an object, and by observing and analysing the appearance of the temperature, it is able to detect anomalies such as hotspots in the thermal map of the target object, and to detect malfunctioning equipment and hidden hazardous substances. However, its observation effect in excessively bright environments is awkward and relatively expensive.

Both infrared night vision and thermal imaging cameras have their own characteristics and have their own advantages and disadvantages in different application environments, and should be selected according to actual needs.
