About the understanding and application of DC power supply

Individuals in our lives are constantly exposed to familiar items of one kind or another, but we often neglect to include information that is not well known but is nonetheless directly relevant to our daily lives. The editor will present such a DC power supply to you today. A DC (direct current) power supply is what? It has the ability to receive electricity from both three-phase and AC mains power supplies, and it can produce a DC voltage of thousands or even tens of thousands of volts.

There are two positive and negative poles on a DC power source. There is a great potential for the positive pole and a low potential for the negative pole. A current can flow from the positive electrode to the negative electrode in an external circuit when two electrodes are connected to a circuit and a constant potential difference is maintained between the two ends of the circuit. In order to maintain a steady flow of current, a DC power supply transforms different kinds of energy into electrical energy supply circuits.

A steady flow cannot be sustained by a mere difference in water level; instead, a water pump must be used to continually move water from the lower to the upper portion. Similar to this, non-electrostatic interactions, also known as non-electrostatic forces, can be used to return positive charges from the negative electrode with a lower potential to a higher potential with the assistance of a DC power source. However, the electrostatic field created by charges alone is unable to sustain a steady current. To provide a stable current, the potential difference between the electrodes and the potential of the positive electrode are both maintained.

In a DC power source, the non-electrostatic force points from the negative pole to the positive pole. A current is created from the positive electrode to the negative electrode outside the power supply (external circuit) when the DC power supply is connected to it. This is because of the push of the electric field force. Non-electrostatic forces induce current to flow from the negative electrode to the positive electrode in a power supply (internal circuit), which results in the flow of charge in a closed cycle.

DC power supply types are numerous. The energy conversion mechanism and the nature of the non-electrostatic force vary between different kinds of DC power supply. Non-electrostatic forces in chemical batteries (i.e., dry batteries, storage batteries, etc.) are chemical phenomena associated with ion dissolution and deposition. In thermoelectric power sources like semiconductor and metal thermocouples, Joule heat is dispersed during the discharge of a chemical battery, which transforms chemical energy into electrical energy. Diffusion effects resulting from variations in temperature and electron concentration are considered non-electrostatic forces. A portion of the thermal energy is transformed into electrical energy when a thermoelectric source powers an external circuit.

Electromagnetic induction is the non-electrostatic force in a DC generator. Mechanical energy is transformed into electrical energy and Joule heat when a DC generator provides electricity. The photovoltaic effect in solar cells is the non-electrostatic force. Light energy is converted into electrical energy and Joule heat when a photovoltaic cell is turned on.
