Non-contact infrared thermometers are used in the steel production process to monitor temperature, which is essential to improve productivity and product quality.

The temperature indicates whether the production process is working within the required range; whether the temperature of the heating furnace is too low or too high; whether the rolling mill needs to be adjusted, or to what extent it needs to be cooled. Infrared thermometers monitor each stage so that the steel maintains the correct metallurgical properties throughout the process.

At every stage of the steel production process, infrared thermometers can benefit from:

● of products ● Increased productivity ● Reduced energy consumption

● Enhanced personnel safety ● Reduced downtime ● Ease of data logging

Infrared temperature measurement is used in steel processing and manufacturing, the main applications:

● Continuous casting ● Hot blast furnace ● Hot rolling ● Cold rolling ● Rod/wire rolling

The smart sensor head with digital circuitry and two-way communication enables remote parameter setting of the sensor head in the control room, enabling enhanced functionality and greater control—especially important for metallic materials with varying emissivity.

To produce products and improve productivity, temperature measurement is the key in the whole process of steelmaking.

Continuous casting

When continuous casting transforms molten steel into slabs, slabs or billets, there may be production cuts or downtime, and real-time temperature monitoring is required, together with nozzle and flow adjustment, to provide proper cooling to ensure that the billet requires Metallurgical properties for ultimate product, productivity and equipment life.

The type of sensor head selected is determined by the production process and the location of the sensor head. If installed in harsh environments where the line of sight is blocked by dust, water mist or steam, the fiber optic dual-color sensor head and integrated dual-color sensor head are the best choices.

A line scanner can be used if an edge-to-edge temperature profile of the slab is required.

hot rolled

The type of hot rolling and the number and type of rolling mills in the rolling process vary with the type of product being processed.
