Detection standards for spark detectors in actual use

Electric spark detector, also known as electric spark leak detector, full name is electric spark anti-corrosion layer detector, electric spark anti-corrosion layer leak detector, etc. The instrument uses the high-voltage pulse principle, that is, when there are pinholes, blisters, bubbles and other anti-corrosion defects in the anti-corrosion insulating coating on the conductive metal substrate, the instrument emits an audible and visual alarm, and some intelligent counting instruments record the number of anti-corrosion defects at the same time. The instrument can perform quality inspection on coatings of different thicknesses such as glass-lined FRP, epoxy coal pitch and rubber lining.

Electric spark detector instruments are widely used in anti-corrosion tanks and pipelines in oil and gas fields, pipeline installation companies, construction and safety supervision companies, chemical pipelines, enamel, machinery, power plants, shipyards, petrochemical plants, military factories, bridge projects and other industries.

The detection voltage of the spark leak detector instrument is: choose the appropriate detection voltage according to the thickness of the anti-corrosion layer. The detection voltage of the conventional instrument is 500V-6KV, 5KV-30KV, 500V-30KV. The pointer leak detector is equipped with 5KV-30KV. There are two types of high-voltage rods and 500V-6KV low-voltage rods. The digital instrument has one high-voltage rod to achieve the full range of 500V-30KV. During the specific detection process, a reasonable detection voltage should be selected based on the thickness of the anti-corrosion layer and the specific material of the object.

The leak detection voltage is determined according to the following formula:
(1) For 0.2mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, and 0.8mm epoxy coal pitch, select 4~5KV detection voltage or execute according to relevant regulations.

(2) The corresponding detection voltages for petroleum asphalt anti-corrosion layer thicknesses of 2, 3, 5.5, 7, and 9 (mm) are 11, 15, 18, 20, and 24 (kv) respectively.

(3) Polyethylene tape, when Tc<1mm: V=3294√Tc When Tc≥1mm: V=7843√Tc, V: voltage, TC: anti-corrosion layer thickness; according to SY4014-92 acceptance specifications.

(4) The detection voltage of glass-lined glass is determined based on experience, which is generally 8KV~20KV.

(5) The commonly used detection voltage for the 3PE anti-corrosion layer of common gas and fuel pipelines is 15KV.

(6) Other anti-corrosion materials are determined according to the design detection voltage of the design department or the insulation performance of the material itself. (end)
