Difference between multimeter and oscilloscope checking
Multimeters and oscilloscopes are all too familiar to electronic engineers. They can be said to be essential tools for research and development, debugging and maintenance. Of course, the functions of multimeter and oscilloscope are completely different.
Multimeter
There are two types of multimeter: pointer type and digital type; pointer type has basically been eliminated, and now it is basically a digital multimeter.
The multimeter can be used to measure resistance, AC and DC voltage, AC and DC current, diode, capacitance, frequency, etc. The multimeter is easy to use. Multimeters are easy to use. Simply set the gear to the desired function to be measured and you are ready to measure.
When using the multimeter to measure current, special attention should be paid to the current measurement needs to be connected in series to the circuit, and the red pen needs to be inserted into the appropriate range of the jack, the current exceeds the range of the fuse will burn out the multimeter.
Oscilloscope
Oscilloscopes are different from multimeters in that a multimeter only displays the measured values. Oscilloscopes can measure signals quickly and continuously, and plot them into curves that are displayed on the screen.
Oscilloscopes have a wide range of applications. It can convert signals that are invisible to the naked eye into images. We can analyse various signals and data changes based on the measured signal waveform.
Oscilloscopes have more functions and menus and require some basic knowledge to use.
There are 2 types of multimeters: analogue and digital.
The analogue meter pointer swings flexibly and it is easier to judge the changes in the circuit.
Oscilloscope
Multimeters are smart for measuring DC signals and low-frequency AC signals with high accuracy. For most AC signals and digital signals, they can only be detected with an oscilloscope. As the oscilloscope can detect the electronic circuit of the various signal waveforms in the oscilloscope tube display, so that people in the maintenance of equipment and circuit debugging, accurate judgement of whether the circuit is normal.
Circuits, especially weak electronic circuits in the electrical signals may be complex, random, transient, this time with an oscilloscope can analyse the characteristics of the signal and estimate its electrical parameters. Multimeter can only determine the steady state of the typical electrical parameters of electrical signals, not to facilitate the measurement and analysis of complex electrical signal parameters. Multimeter is suitable for both the traditional strong line measurement, but also in the weak line measurement of certain parameters. Oscilloscopes are widely used in electronic circuits, strong power lines less applicable.
Multimeter various functions needless to say, we all know, but in the measurement of the signal, the multimeter can only measure a rough voltage to initially judge and guess the measurement of the place with or without failure, can not accurately judge, but the oscilloscope can be seen visually measuring the point of the waveform, whether the deformation or loss of the signal, you can accurately determine the presence of faults, whether the distortion, such as the tube TV line-field scanning waveforms, and the oscilloscope can be seen in the measurement of the waveform. Television signals in the various signal amplification circuit of the waveform is distorted or lost, you can intuitively see if there is a problem!
