Differences Between Ultrasonic and Laser Rangefinders
The principle of ultrasonic distance measurement is to use the known propagation speed of ultrasonic waves in the air to measure the time it takes for sound waves to reflect back from obstacles after being emitted. Based on the time difference between emission and reception, the actual distance from the emission point to the obstacle is calculated. The ultrasonic rangefinder consists of an ultrasonic generation circuit, an ultrasonic reception amplification circuit, a counting and display circuit.
Laser rangefinder is an instrument that uses laser to accurately measure the distance to a target. The laser rangefinder emits a very thin laser beam towards the target during operation, and the reflected laser beam is received by the photoelectric element. The timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam and calculates the distance from the observer to the target.
The difference between ultrasonic rangefinder and laser rangefinder
1. In terms of accuracy, the measurement accuracy of ultrasonic rangefinders is centimeter level, while the measurement accuracy of laser rangefinders is millimeter level;
2. In terms of measurement range, ultrasonic rangefinders usually have a measurement range of within 80 meters, while handheld laser rangefinders can have a measurement range of up to 200 meters, and laser rangefinder telescopes can have a measurement range of several hundred to several thousand meters, or even farther (the measurement accuracy of laser rangefinder telescopes is usually 1 meter or tens of centimeters).
3. Ultrasonic rangefinders are prone to errors. As ultrasonic rangefinders emit sound waves and have the fan-shaped emission characteristics of sound waves, when there are many obstacles where sound waves pass through, more sound waves are reflected back, causing more interference and making them prone to errors. On the other hand, laser rangefinders emit a very small beam of laser light and then return, so as long as the beam can pass through, there is almost no interference.
4. The price of ultrasonic rangefinders ranges from tens to hundreds of yuan, while the price of laser rangefinders ranges from hundreds to thousands or tens of thousands of yuan, with significant differences depending on accuracy and distance.
