Discussion on Selection Methods of Infrared Thermometers

Infrared temperature measurement technology has played an important role in product quality control and monitoring, online fault diagnosis of equipment, safety protection, and energy conservation. In recent years, non-contact infrared thermometers have developed rapidly in technology, with continuously improving performance and expanding applicability, and their market share has been increasing year by year. Compared to contact based temperature measurement methods, infrared temperature measurement has advantages such as fast response time, non-contact, safe use, and long service life.

Infrared Thermometer

working principle

All objects with temperatures above absolute zero are constantly emitting infrared radiation energy into the surrounding space. The infrared radiation characteristics of an object - the magnitude of radiation energy and its distribution by wavelength - are closely related to its surface temperature. Therefore, by measuring the infrared energy radiated by an object itself, its surface temperature can be accurately determined, which is the basis for infrared radiation temperature measurement.

When using an infrared radiation thermometer to measure the temperature of a target, the first step is to measure the infrared radiation of the target within its wavelength range, and then the thermometer calculates the temperature of the measured target. Monochromatic thermometers are proportional to the radiation within the frequency band; The dual color thermometer is proportional to the ratio of radiation in two bands.

Infrared system

The infrared thermometer consists of an optical system, a photodetector, a signal amplifier, signal processing, display output, and other components. The optical system concentrates the infrared radiation energy of the target within its field of view, and the size of the field of view is determined by the optical components and their positions of the thermometer. Infrared energy is focused on the photodetector and converted into corresponding electrical signals. The signal is amplified and processed by a signal processing circuit, and then converted into the temperature value of the measured target after being calibrated according to the algorithm and target emissivity of the instrument's internal therapy.
