Exploration of Wear Resistance of Vulcanized Rubber Using Scanning Electron Microscope
Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is a routine instrument for analyzing the microscopic morphology of materials. This work introduces SEM into the analysis of rubber friction lines, and conducts in-depth research on the application of SEM in the evaluation of the wear resistance of vulcanized rubber. Rubbing to avoid the problem of rubber residue caused by repeated rubbing of the same area, and then the rubbed area was subjected to SEM microscopic imaging, and some valuable results were found.
main raw material
Carbon black, the grades are N134, N330, N660, N762 and N990, products of Cabot Corporation of the United States.
formula
Comparative formula: natural rubber (NR) 100, zinc oxide 4, stearic acid 2, antioxidant 6PPD 1, insoluble sulfur 1, accelerator TBBS 1.5.
On the basis of the comparison formula, 50 parts of carbon black N134, N330, N660, N762 and N990 were added to the five test formulas.
Main equipment and instruments
XK-160 type open mill, product of Shanghai Shuangyi Rubber Machinery Factory; XSM-1/10~120 type rubber and plastic internal mixer, product of Shanghai Kechuang Rubber and Plastic Machinery Co., Ltd.; XLB-D600×600 type flat vulcanizing machine, Zhejiang Product of Huzhou Dongfang Machinery Co., Ltd.; Nova NanoSEM 450 SEM, product of FEI Company in the United States; frosted glass (20 cm×20 cm); friction wheel, self-made.
carbon black filler
Mix NR in the internal mixer for 50 seconds, add 25 parts of carbon black, add the remaining 25 parts of carbon black and small materials after mixing for 1 minute, discharge the glue after mixing for 2 minutes, and mix the rubber materials evenly on the open mixer. next film.
The rubber material is vulcanized into a thin film with a thickness of about 200 μm on a flat vulcanizing machine.
Carbon Black Free Filler
Mix NR in the internal mixer for 50 s, add all the small materials, and discharge the rubber after mixing for 2 minutes. film. This film does not contain carbon black.
friction test
The friction test was carried out on 6 vulcanized rubber test pieces. First, cut a strip of 20 mm (length) × 5 mm (width) on the vulcanized rubber test piece, and stick the strip on the self-made friction wheel with double-sided tape (as shown in Figure 1), and then put the friction wheel Put it on a 20 cm×20 cm frosted glass, make the rubber strip contact with the surface of the ground glass, pull the friction wheel forward at a speed of 10 cm s-1, and repeat different paths during the movement so that the total moving distance reaches 0.2 m. After the test, remove the adhesive strip and stick it on the SEM sample stage, so that the rubbed part is placed upwards.
