Fault Handling Procedures for Combustible Gas Detectors

Combustible gas detectors are sensors that respond to the concentration of single or multiple combustible gases. They are mainly divided into two types: catalytic combustion type and infrared optical type. Malfunctions may occur during operation, so it is necessary to master corresponding troubleshooting methods. The detailed solutions are listed as follows:

① Do not install air conditioners or heating equipment close to the detector. If cold or hot airflow blows directly onto the device during equipment operation, the resistivity of the internal platinum wire will change and lead to measurement errors. Therefore, the detector shall be kept away from air conditioning and heating facilities to avoid faults caused by improper installation location.

② Take strict precautions against electromagnetic interference during use. Anti-interference measures shall be implemented in terms of installation position, mounting angle, protection configuration and system wiring. Electromagnetic interference mainly comes from three sources: airborne electromagnetic waves, narrow pulse clusters on power lines and I/O circuits, and human static electricity.

③ Avoid adverse environmental factors that easily trigger failures, such as dust, high temperature, high humidity and direct rain splash. If an exhaust fan needs to be installed on site, do not place it adjacent to the detector; otherwise, leaked combustible gas cannot diffuse fully to the sensor, resulting in delayed detection and missed early warning.

④ For installation in explosion-proof hazardous areas, select explosion-proof certified detectors. For Class A workshops where flammable gases are released, the explosion-proof grade of the detector shall meet or exceed the requirements specified in current national codes.

⑤ Keep the detector away from environments with high temperature, excessive humidity, water vapor and oil fume. Do not place or hang any objects on the equipment. Once installed, the detector shall not be arbitrarily relocated.

⑥ Prioritize models with replaceable sensor probes for convenient later maintenance and replacement.
