How to use a digital clamp meter:
1. Perform mechanical zeroing before measuring;
2. Next, select the appropriate range. Select the large range first and then the small range. You can also estimate it based on the nameplate value of the appliance;
3. When using a small range for measurement, the reading may not be obvious. At this time, you need to wind the measured wire a few turns, and the number of turns should be based on the number of turns in the center of the jaws. The reading in this case is: reading = indicated value × range / full deviation × number of turns;
4. When measuring, make sure the measured wire is located in the center of the jaws and keep the jaws in a tightly closed state, which can effectively reduce errors;
5. When the measurement is completed, turn the switch to the range.
Precautions for using digital clamp meters
1. The voltage of the measured circuit must be the rated voltage of the clamp meter;
2. When measuring the current of high-voltage circuits, be sure to wear insulating gloves, insulating shoes and stand on insulating mats to ensure safety;
3. The jaws of the digital clamp meter must be tightly closed, and measurements cannot be performed when the circuit is energized.
When using a clamp meter, there are several key considerations to keep in mind:
1. Select a range that matches the current to be measured and ensure that it does not exceed the maximum allowable value of the clamp meter. Make a preliminary estimate before measuring and set the appropriate range accordingly. If adjustment is required, withdraw the jaws before operating.
2. During the measurement process, do not switch the range at will to avoid affecting the measurement accuracy.
3. Do not clamp the L live wire and the N neutral wire at the same time for measurement, because in the absence of leakage, the current directions of the two wires are opposite, which will cause the measurement to fail. Just measure one wire.
4. Make sure that the measured wire is located in the center of the jaws and close the jaws tightly to avoid measurement errors caused by magnetic leakage.
5. When measuring small currents, in order to obtain more accurate results, if conditions permit, the wire can be wound around the clamp meter several times before measuring. The final reading divided by the number of turns can get the actual current value.
6. After each measurement, remember to reset the current range to zero, especially for those clamp meters without automatic shut-off function, to save battery power.
