Four Precautions for Using Portable Carbon Monoxide Gas Detectors

Portable carbon monoxide gas detectors are widely used in industrial mines and other sites thanks to their compact size, stable performance, accurate measurement and simple operation. To achieve optimal performance of the carbon monoxide gas detector during use, please pay attention to the following four points:

① Pay attention to the concentration measuring range of the gas detector. A carbon monoxide detector has a fixed detection range. Accurate measurement can only be guaranteed when testing is carried out within this specified range.

② Conduct regular calibration and testing. Like other analytical measuring instruments, toxic and harmful gas detectors adopt the relative comparison method for measurement. Therefore, zeroing the instrument at any time and performing regular calibration are essential to ensure measurement accuracy.

③ Watch out for detection interference among different sensors. Generally speaking, each gas detector sensor is designed for a specific target gas. When selecting a gas sensor, it is necessary to fully understand the interference from other gases to this sensor.

④ Be aware of the service life of various sensors. In portable instruments, the service life of an LEL sensor is approximately three years. The lifespan of an electrochemical sensor depends on the drying of its electrolyte. If it will not be used for a long time, sealing and storing it in a low-temperature environment can properly extend its service life. Fixed instruments have relatively larger dimensions and accordingly longer sensor service life. A photoionization detector can work for four years or longer; dedicated electrochemical gas sensors usually last one to two years; the sensor of a carbon monoxide detector generally has a service life of around one year.
