Function and application of metallographic microscope
Metallographic microscope is a specialized instrument used to inspect the metallographic structure of opaque objects such as metals and minerals. Those opaque objects cannot be observed in ordinary transmission light microscopes, so the important difference between metallographic microscopes and ordinary microscopes is that metallographic microscopes image with reflected light, while ordinary microscopes illuminate with transmitted light. Metallographic microscopes have the characteristics of good stability, clear imaging, high resolution, and a large and flat field of view. Important applications in industries such as LCD, LED, IC packaging, etc. Metallographic microscope is a high-tech product developed by combining optical microscopy techniques, photoelectric conversion techniques, and computer image solving techniques. It can conveniently inspect metallographic images on a computer, analyze and grade metallographic spectra, and input and print images. As is widely known, the composition, heat treatment process, and cold and hot processing technology of alloys indirectly affect the external organization and structure of metal materials, thereby causing changes in the mechanical properties of parts. Therefore, using a metallographic microscope to inspect, test, and analyze the external structure of metals is an important tool in industrial consumption.
Several applications of metallographic microscope in production
1. Metallographic microscope inspection of raw materials: inspection of the metallurgical quality of raw materials, such as segregation, distribution type and grade of non-metallic inclusions; Check the uniformity of casting porosity, porosity, and slag inclusion structure of casting materials; Inspect the surface decarburization, overheating, overburning, cracking, deformation, and other conditions of forged parts.
2. Quality control during the production process: Metallographic microscopes can provide a basis for adjusting processes and modifying process parameters, guiding production, such as whether the heating temperature, insulation time, cooling rate, etc. of heat treatment quenching are appropriate (correct); Control of process parameters for chemical surface heat treatment; Whether the starting and ending forging temperatures are appropriate.
3. Failure analysis of metallographic microscope: The metallographic structure analysis method is widely used in mechanical failure analysis and is very convenient for identifying some common defects. Decarbonization on the surface of mechanical components; The morphology and distribution characteristics of microcracks; Defects in chemical heat treatment; Abnormal tissue after heat treatment; Grain boundary brittle phase precipitation, etc. The results of these metallographic analyses are often used as the basis for fault analysis.
4. Product quality inspection: Some mechanical parts or products require not only mechanical and physical performance indicators, but also microstructure parameters as one of the technical indicators for quality assessment.
