How Are Portable Gas Detectors Classified?
Gas‑detection technologies are being applied in an increasingly wide range of fields. To achieve easy portability and simple operation, portable gas detectors have achieved continuous improvement, and are now clearly divided into two types: pump‑sampling and diffusion‑style detectors.
A pump‑sampling gas detector is equipped with a miniature air pump. Driven by power supply, the pump draws gas samples from the target area and feeds sampled gas into the instrument for measurement. Pump‑sampling gas detectors feature fast detection speed and allow remote measurement in high‑risk zones to keep maintenance personnel safe. In other respects, they are identical to diffusion‑type gas detectors.
For diffusion‑type gas detectors, gas from the monitored area flows freely and drifts slowly into the instrument for detection. This measurement method is susceptible to environmental conditions such as ambient temperature and air flow. Diffusion‑type gas detectors are characterized by low cost.
Pump‑sampling and diffusion‑type gas detectors share largely identical working principles. The built‑in sensor measures sample gas, and electrical signals are amplified and processed by circuits before being converted into corresponding numerical readings displayed on the screen.
