How exactly should a stylus be used?
The stylus is almost one of the most used tools for the electrician, for the average user, two dollars a stylus has long been known as one of the essential tools of the family like the pliers. But how to use the pen in the end should be used? Here we come to understand.
Basic usage
Various functions of the power meter pen, can not be separated from the correct method of use - for the pen, if the use of the wrong way, and even the risk of electric shock, so be careful.
Here's how to use only the most common and inexpensive neon bubble stylus:
Hold the insulated part of the stylus between your thumb and middle, ring and little fingers (thumb on one side, the other three fingers on the other side), and touch the metal cap or metal clip on the top of the stylus with your index finger.
At the other end of the stylus, is a and a word change the same thing, this part can only be measured with the object in contact, never contact with the human body.
Measurement, with the above posture to hold the pen, with the above a word change cone part of the contact with the object being measured. At the same time, make sure that the body part of the measurer is in contact with the earth (standing directly on the ground is enough, if wearing insulating rubber shoes or standing on a stool, you need to use the other hand to touch the wall).
Voltage measurement
Measuring voltage with a stylus is the most common method for electric pens. However, it should be noted that the stylus can only measure the presence or absence of voltage in the line, can not judge the circuit on and off or the size of the voltage (there is certainly a voltage is through, but no voltage may not be a circuit breaker).
Measurement, with the stylus touching the line being measured, if the stylus lights up, proving that there is voltage in the line; conversely, there is no voltage.
Before measuring, we first need to know the purpose of their own measurements. For example, in single-phase circuits, the fire line normally has a voltage, and the zero line and ground line have no voltage. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the fire line can light up the pen, zero ground line can not be lit. But when we measure the zero-ground line can not light up the pen, does not mean that the zero-ground line is completely normal, the need for further testing.
Distinguish between zero and ground
Distinguish between zero and ground, has always been a headache for many beginning electricians. But in fact, a stylus can solve this problem.
The method is as follows:
First of all, use an electric pen to measure several wires in front of you, only one wire can light up the electric pen, this line is the fire wire.
Afterwards hold an electric pen in each of the right and left hands, the measurer standing on an insulated object, not in contact with the earth. Use one of the pens to make contact with the fire wire and the other to make contact with the wire to be measured. If at this time the two pens do not light up or the brightness is low, then the line to be measured is the ground line. If the two pens are normally lit at this time, the line to be tested is the zero line.
Distinguish between AC and DC
Is the line AC or DC? Again, an electric pen can be solved.
Method 1: There are at least two wires in the circuit, measured with an electric pen, if one of the two wires can light up the pen, the rest can not light up, it proves that the circuit is alternating current. If two wires can light up the pen, the circuit is DC.
Method 2: When the circuit is AC, the pen is brighter. When there is DC current in the circuit, the brightness of the pen is low.
Method 3: Observe the luminous position of the pen. The same is to use the pen to contact the fire wire, if it is direct current, the neon bubble inside the pen only at one end of the light; if it is alternating current, the neon bubble of the pen will be the whole light up.
