How helpful is rosin for soldering irons?

Rosin is the most commonly used flux. It is neutral and will not corrode circuit components and soldering iron tips. This allows the tin droplets to quickly stick to the circuit board during welding, and the rest is just waiting for the tin droplets to cool. In this way, the quality of the welded product is guaranteed.

First of all, when the tin droplets are in a liquid state, the solder joints are very full, because the fluidity of the liquid tin droplets is not very good and will basically stay next to the electronic pins. When it solidifies, it will not change much.

The function of rosin also includes clearing the oxides on the metal surface and assisting the diffusion of tin.

In terms of solder joints, it can connect parts without mechanical support; coordinate heat dissipation; and conduct electricity. Therefore, from these aspects, rosin is very helpful for common welding requirements.

The main function is to assist soldering. The usage is: 1. Dip the hot soldering iron into solder. 2. Dip the hot soldering iron into rosin. 3. Use the soldering iron with rosin and solder to solder.

The biggest benefit of rosin is: tin the wires, because it is difficult to tin the wires without rosin. First heat the soldering iron, then put the soldering iron in the rosin, take out the soldering iron, dip it in tin, and then put it in rosin, and then put the wires to be tinned in, so that tinning is much easier. Another function is to put the newly purchased soldering iron into the rosin, and then apply tin. The entire soldering iron head will be covered with tin. After using the soldering iron in the future, it will be filled with tin. The next time you use the soldering iron, it will not be filled with tin. The soldering iron tip is oxidized and becomes unusable.

Rosin acts as a flux in welding.

Theoretically speaking, the melting point of flux is lower than that of solder, and its specific gravity, viscosity, and surface tension are smaller than that of solder. Therefore, during welding, the flux melts first, then quickly flows and covers the surface of the solder, isolating the air and preventing the metal surface from It has the effect of oxidation and can react with the surface oxide film of the solder and the metal being welded under the high temperature of welding, causing it to melt and restore the pure metal surface. Suitable solder helps to produce a satisfactory solder joint shape and maintain the surface gloss of the solder joints.

If it is a newly printed circuit board, apply a layer of rosin water to the surface of the copper foil before soldering. If the circuit board is already made, it can be soldered directly. In fact, the use of rosin depends on personal habits. Some people will dip the soldering iron tip in rosin after soldering a component. I always do it when the soldering iron tip is oxidized and is inconvenient to use. Soak some rosin in it. The use of rosin is also very simple. Just open the rosin box and dip the powered soldering iron tip in it.

If solid core solder is used during welding, adding some rosin is necessary; if rosin tin soldering wire is used (the core of the soldering wire is wrapped with flux), rosin is not required.

Since a metal surface will form an oxide film when it comes into contact with air, the higher the temperature, the more severe the oxidation will be. This oxide film prevents liquid solder from wetting the metal, just like oil on glass prevents water from wetting it. Flux is a special material used to remove oxide films, also known as flux. Flux has three major functions: 1. Remove oxide film. The essence is that the substances in the flux undergo a reduction reaction, thereby removing the oxide film, and the reaction product becomes suspended slag, floating on the surface of the solder. 2. Prevent oxidation. After it melts, it floats on the surface of the solder to form an isolation layer, thereby preventing oxidation of the soldering surface. 3. Reduce surface tension, increase solder fluidity, and help solder wet the weldment.
