How often do I need to replace the sensor in my gas detector?

The question about how often the sensor of a gas detector should be replaced comes up from time to time and we face such things whenever we use a gas detector. So how often should the sensor be replaced?

In reality, there is no recommended maintenance schedule regarding sensor replacement for portable gas detectors. You shouldn't think of replacing sensors as replacing your car's petrol; it's more similar to filling up the tank. When the sensor does not have enough sensitivity to achieve a successful calibration, it can be viewed as a full tank and should be replaced. As long as there is "gas in the tank" the sensor will work.

Gas detectors have a standard method of confirming the status of the sensor and determining how much oil is left in the tank. It is called the retention value. The retention value is a measure of the sensitivity of the sensor and is derived when the detector is calibrated. At the end of the calibration of the tester, the retention value of each sensor is displayed and stored in the calibration record of the instrument. If the retention value of a sensor is less than or equal to 50% of the standard gas concentration, the sensor fails the calibration and must be replaced. When the retention value is between 50% and 70% of the standard gas concentration, the sensitivity of the sensor is borderline and it is time to start thinking about replacing the sensor to avoid a completely empty tank.

So the bottom line should be this. As long as your sensors have enough sensitivity or retention to be used when they can be successfully calibrated, they will work fine. There is no need to replace the sensors until they fail to calibrate and don't work. Keep an eye on the retention values, then you won't encounter a state where the tank is completely empty.

Here to remind friends, gas detector as a detection of gas leakage concentration of an important alarm device, its importance is self-evident, from the national express bill of mandatory installation to the chemical, pharmaceutical and other enterprises strongly requested to be installed, which shows that we have been more and more attention to the production safety, safety is a society, the country's premise for the smooth development of the concept that we should develop a safe production.
