Maintenance Instructions for Ordinary Microscope

① After observation, remove the observed specimen slide.

② After using the oil immersion objective, first wipe off the oil on the lens with lens paper. Then moisten another piece of lens paper with xylene and wipe the lens 2–3 times. Finally, wipe off the residual xylene with clean lens paper.

③ Rotate the revolving nosepiece and set it to the low-power objective position.④ Lower the body tube to the low position, adjust the specimen mover on the stage, and cover the microscope with the dust cover.

Lenses require the most careful protection. Keep lenses clean and only wipe them with soft, lint-free lens paper. Store lens paper in a box to prevent dust contamination. Never use handkerchiefs or gauze to wipe lenses. When dirt must be removed with solvent, pay attention to avoid dissolving the adhesive for fixing lenses. Select suitable solvents such as alcohol, acetone and xylene according to different adhesives; xylene is commonly used.Method: Take a small amount of xylene with degreased cotton, wipe gently, and immediately remove the xylene residue with lens paper. Then blow away any residual fiber debris with an ear wash ball.

You can check whether the eyepiece is clean under the microscope: rotate the eyepiece. If dirt moves along with the field of view, the eyepiece is contaminated. Wipe the lens surface of the eyepiece with lens paper. If the dirt cannot be removed, wipe the lower lens, and blow away the fiber scraps with an ear wash ball after wiping. When wiping the eyepiece or removing it for other reasons, cover the tube opening with lens paper to prevent dust from falling into the tube and contaminating the inner lens surfaces.
