Optical microscope magnification estimation
(1) Optical magnification. Optical magnification refers to the effect of observing an object being magnified from the eyepiece of a microscope, and this amplification result is called the optical magnification. The calculation of optical magnification is relatively simple, which is the objective magnification multiplied by the eyepiece magnification. Taking the magnification calculation of a stereo microscope as an example, if the continuous magnification is 0.7-4.5 and the eyepiece is 10x, then the magnification of this stereo microscope is 7-45x. If the microscope has an objective lens and an eyepiece, then the total magnification of the microscope can be obtained by directly multiplying the magnification of the objective lens by the magnification of the eyepiece.
(2) Digital magnification. Digital amplification usually refers to the magnification of an object after being imaged by an external device. At present, there are many three lens microscopes on the market that are connected to imaging devices such as computers and LCD displays through CCD for imaging observation. How many times is the object magnified after connecting external devices? Here are two calculation methods.
(a) If there is accurate data on the actual size of the observed object, it can be calculated by the formula: the actual magnification of the object=the size of the object after magnification/the actual size of the object. If the actual size of the object is 2 μ m, after imaging on the display, the length of the imaged object can be measured with a ruler. If the length of the measured object is 2 mm, then the object is magnified 1000 times.
(b) If there is no clear concept of object size, it can be calculated using the following formula.
Digital magnification=objective magnification x {25.4 x screen size (inches)/length of the CD diagonal} x magnification of the connecting ring
