Laser rangefinders generally use two ways to measure the distance: pulse method and phase method. Pulse method distance measurement process is this: rangefinder launched; laser by the measured object after the reflection and then received by the rangefinder, rangefinder at the same time to record the laser round-trip time. Half of the product of the speed of light and the round trip time is the distance between the rangefinder and the object being measured. The accuracy of the pulse method of distance measurement is generally around +/-1 metre. In addition, the measurement blindness of such rangefinders is generally about 5-15 metres.

The instrument works with semiconductor laser at 905 nm and 1540 nm. For 905 nm and 1540 nm laser rangefinder, we call it "safe". The working wavelength is 1064 nm YAG laser. 1064 nm wavelength is harmful to human skin and eyes, especially if the eyes accidentally come into contact with the 1064 nm wavelength laser, the damage to the eyes may be * sex. Therefore, in foreign countries, handheld laser rangefinders, completely outlawed 1064 nm laser. In China, some manufacturers still produce 1064 nm laser rangefinders. As for 1064nm laser rangefinders, we call them "unsafe" because they are potentially harmful to the human body.
