The Structure and Use of Metallographic Microscope

Structure of metallographic microscope
There are many types and forms of metallographic microscopes, mainly including desktop, vertical, and horizontal types. But its basic structure is basically the same, usually composed of three major systems: optical system, lighting system, and mechanical system. Some microscopes are also equipped with photography devices, polarized light accessories, etc., to expand the function of the microscope. The structure of the domestically produced 4X desktop metallographic microscope is shown in Figure 2. This type of microscope is widely used due to its lightweight structure and simple operation.

(4) Use of metallographic microscope
1. According to the required magnification for observing the sample, correctly select the objective lens and eyepiece, and install them respectively on the objective lens holder and inside the eyepiece cylinder.

2. Align the center of the stage with the center of the objective lens, place the prepared sample in the center of the stage, and the observation surface of the sample should face downwards.

3. Insert the microscope bulb into the low-voltage transformer (6-8V), and then plug the transformer plug into the 220V power socket to make the bulb light up.

4. Rotate the coarse focusing handwheel, lower the stage, and make the observation surface of the sample close to the objective lens; Then rotate the coarse focus knob in the opposite direction, raise the stage, so that the blurry image can be seen in the eyepiece; Finally, turn the fine focus handwheel until the image is clear.

5. Adjust the aperture and field of view apertures appropriately, select appropriate filters, and obtain the desired image.

6. Move the loading platform forward, backward, left, and right to observe different parts of the sample, in order to comprehensively analyze and find representative microstructures.

7. After observation, the power should be cut off in a timely manner to extend the service life of the light bulb.

After the experiment is completed, the objective lens and eyepiece should be carefully removed and checked for dust and other contamination. If there is contamination, it should be gently wiped clean with lens paper in a timely manner, and then stored in a dryer to prevent moisture and mold. Microscopes should also be covered with dust covers at all times.
