Tips for choosing clamp meters

1: Detection object
Choose the model based on different detection objects, AC current, DC current, or leakage current;

2: Detectable conductor specifications
In conjunction with the testing site, there are different specifications ranging from 21mm diameter to 53mm diameter

3: Is it necessary to detect the true efficacy value
The clamp current meter using the average value method cannot correctly detect non sinusoidal circuits such as motors and transformer circuits. To detect such circuits, a clamp current meter using the true effective value method should be used

4: Other functions
A model that not only detects current, but also integrates detection function and recording output
Clamp current meter, abbreviated as clamp meter. Its working part mainly consists of an electromagnetic ammeter and a through type current transformer. The core of the through type current transformer is made into a movable opening and in a clamp shape, hence the name clamp ammeter. It is a portable instrument that can directly measure the AC current of a circuit without disconnecting it. It is very convenient to use in electrical maintenance and has a wide range of applications.

Precautions for using a clamp ammeter
① When measuring current, the position of the measured fluid should be placed in the center of the clamp to avoid errors.

② Before measurement, the magnitude of the measured current should be estimated, and an appropriate range should be selected. When the current is unknown, the maximum range should be selected, and then the range should be appropriately reduced according to the pointer. However, the range cannot be converted during measurement.

③ To ensure accurate readings, the jaws should be kept clean and undamaged. If there is dirt, it should be wiped clean with gasoline before measurement.

④ When measuring currents below 5A, in order to measure accurately, measurements should be taken in circles.

⑤ The clamp meter cannot measure the current of bare wires to prevent electric shock and short circuit.

⑥ After measurement, be sure to place the range knob in the maximum range position.
