What exactly is a digital microscope system?
A digital microscope is an optical microscope with a digital camera that does not require eyepieces. The electronic monitor display directly shows an image of the sample being observed and analyzed. Digital microscopes can also be conventional stereo or compound microscopes, which are equipped with both eyepieces and cameras, and are capable of saving feedback on microscope status and camera settings. In the rest of this article, when we refer to "digital microscopes", we refer to microscopes without eyepieces, such as the Leica DVM6, Leica DMS1000, and Leica DMS300, rather than stereo or compound microscopes with cameras.
