Why does the soldering iron not heat up after being idle for a while?

1. It's not hot at all
If it's not hot at all, use the resistance range of the multimeter to measure the resistance of the power cord plug, and it must be ∞. Disassemble the soldering iron, remove or peel off the insulation sleeve at the connection between the power cord and the soldering iron core, and measure the resistance of these two points. If there is resistance, it indicates that the soldering iron core is good and it is a problem with the power cord - it has been pulled off or the plug has poor contact. If the resistance value is still ∞, it means that the soldering iron core is broken. The following are two common types of soldering iron cores: external heating and internal heating.

The reason for the damage of chromium iron core: ● Caused by falling and knocking. Due to the fact that the heating wires of the chromium iron core are wound around quartz or ceramic tubes, these insulating media are already brittle and become even more brittle when heated. They cannot withstand knocking or falling, otherwise they will break and cause damage. The quality of the soldering iron itself is very poor, and the heating wire has been burnt out. On the market now, electric soldering irons priced at 3-5 yuan each have a similar appearance to those priced at tens of yuan each, and can be mistaken for genuine ones. However, the quality is poor and not durable. People often say 'you get what you pay for', and that's true.

2. It can be heated, but the heat is not enough to melt tin
The characteristic of this phenomenon is that the soldering iron has black hair and cannot melt the solder. It seems that the heat is not enough, but in fact, the soldering iron tip has been 'burned to death'.

If this situation occurs, the electric soldering iron that is still being heated can be repeatedly dipped in rosin and rubbed on the tin block until the soldering iron tip is coated with tin, that is, the color changes from black to bright. For pointed and long-lasting soldering irons, it is strictly prohibited to file them with a file, as the alloy head will be removed by filing.

The tip and core of the soldering iron are consumable materials, and damage is a normal phenomenon. However, mastering the correct use of the soldering iron can prolong its service life.
