8 Methods for Using Metallographic Microscopes
① Select and fit the objective lens and eyepiece correctly according to the required magnification for specimen observation, and install them on the objective turret and eyepiece tube respectively.
② Align the center of the stage with the center of the objective lens. Place the prepared specimen at the center of the stage with the observed
surface of the specimen facing downwards.
③ Plug the microscope bulb into the low-voltage transformer (6~8 V), then insert the transformer's plug into the 220 V mains socket to light up the bulb.
④ Turn the coarse focusing handwheel to lower the stage and bring the observed surface of the specimen close to the objective lens. Then rotate the coarse focusing knob in the opposite direction to raise the stage until a blurry image can be seen through the eyepiece. Finally turn the fine focusing handwheel until the image is sharply focused.
⑤ Adjust the aperture diaphragm and field diaphragm appropriately, and select a suitable filter to obtain an ideal image.
⑥ Move the stage forward, backward, left and right to observe different areas of the specimen for comprehensive analysis and identification of the most representative microstructure.
⑦ Cut off the power supply promptly after observation to extend the service life of the bulb.
⑧ After the experiment, carefully remove the objective lens and eyepiece, and inspect for dust or contamination. If contaminated, gently wipe them clean with lens paper and store them in a desiccator to prevent mildew caused by moisture. Cover the microscope with its dust cover at all times when not in use.
