Step 1: Preparation work
Before starting to use a multimeter, some preparation work needs to be done. Firstly, check the power status of the multimeter to ensure that the battery or power cord is connected properly. If using battery power, it is necessary to check if the battery is fully charged. Secondly, check the connection of the measuring probe to ensure that there is no looseness between the plug and the probe. Finally, determine the physical quantities and circuit conditions that need to be measured, and select the appropriate measurement range and function.

 

Step 2: Connect the measurement circuit
Insert the black plug of the measuring probe into the COM (Common) wiring socket of the multimeter, and the red plug into the V Ω mA (Voltage Resistance Current Milliampere) wiring socket. Select the appropriate wiring socket based on the physical quantity and wiring method that needs to be measured.

 

Step 3: Select the measurement range and function
Use the knob selector to select the appropriate measurement range and function. Usually, the knob selector of a multimeter is marked with different physical quantities and measurement ranges, such as direct current voltage (DCV), alternating current voltage (ACV), direct current (DCA), alternating current (ACA), and resistance (Ω). Select the corresponding measurement range and function based on the characteristics of the tested circuit.

 

Step 4: Measure the circuit
Contact the metal probe of the measuring probe with the tested circuit to ensure good electrical contact. When measuring DC or AC voltage, place the red measuring probe in contact with the positive pole of the circuit being tested and the black measuring probe in contact with the negative pole. When measuring direct current or alternating current, connect the measuring probe in series to the current path of the circuit being tested. When measuring resistance, place the measuring probe in contact with both ends of the measured resistance.

 

Step 5: Read the measurement results
When measuring, the digital display screen of the multimeter will show the corresponding measurement results. According to changes in the measurement range, it may be necessary to adjust or switch the measurement range. In order to accurately read the measurement results, the value on the digital display screen can be stabilized within a suitable range by adjusting the zero potential (if any) and range selection. When the measurement results are unstable, the contact position of the measuring probe can be gently adjusted to ensure good contact.
