Dry Film Thickness Gauge Test Method and Operating Principle
Dry film thickness gauge test method and working principle, dry film thickness gauge can non-destructively measure the magnetic metal substrate (such as steel, iron, alloys and hard magnetic steel, etc.) on the thickness of non-magnetic coatings (such as aluminium, chromium, copper, enamel, rubber, paint, etc.) and non-magnetic metal substrate (such as copper, aluminium, zinc, tin, etc.) on the thickness of non-conductive cladding (such as: enamel, rubber, paint, plastic, etc.). Dry film thickness gauge has a small measurement error, high reliability, good stability, easy to operate and so on, is to control and ensure product quality is essential to the detection of the instrument, widely used in manufacturing, metal processing industry, chemical industry, commodity inspection and other testing areas.
The probe can only measure the dry film can not come into contact with water or wet substances.
Note: For better measurement, it is recommended to use the same material as the measured workpiece or uncoated workpiece surface as the substrate calibration.
Germany erichsen233 dry film thickness gauge using the paint film and the substrate level difference, display the thickness of the paint film. The range is from 0-1000 microns in increments of 5 microns. Conforms to EN ISO , ISO, ASTM, BS, FTMS standards. Portable, easy to operate and can be used by non-technical personnel. Rugged construction and readability at a glance.
Measurements can be made on any surface. Because it is all mechanical, it can be applied to glass, wood, metal or plastic substrates.

Measurement procedure
1)Setting
Remove the protective cover and place the instrument vertically on the plane of the glass plate. If the pointer reading is not zero, it can be adjusted through the slot in the protective cover until the pointer reaches zero,.
2) Measuring point preparation
At the measuring point, the coating should be carefully scraped over an area of 3mm until it reaches the substrate.
3) Measurement
Place the instrument on the measuring area so that the pins are in contact with the bare substrate and the dry film thickness can be read directly in μm.
For soft coatings, a razor blade can be placed under the feet.
Working Principle of the erichsen233 Dry Film Thickness Gauge
The difference in height (D) between the upper surface of the coating and the exposed substrate area is measured by means of a freely moving pin (1) under the dial, with two feet (2) placed on the surface of the coating.
The dial instrument is hermetically sealed in a chrome-plated metal case. The feet protrude from the bottom of the instrument and the pins are protected by a sleeve. A slot on the side of the protective sleeve is used for adjusting the pins, which are adjusted by means of the flat surface of a glass plate, an accessory which is included in the scope of delivery. The dial with accessories is contained in a box.
