Operating Methods of Metallographic Microscopes

① Connect the power plug of the light source to the power transformer, then connect the transformer to the 220V household power supply for use. The illumination system has been calibrated before delivery.

② Each time the bulb is replaced, the lamp holder must be adjusted repeatedly. After inserting the bulb into the lamp holder, place a filter glass above the aperture diaphragm. Rotate and adjust the lamp holder forward and backward so that the light source irradiates the filter glass uniformly and brightly. Once the bulb is properly adjusted, rotate the eccentric ring of the lamp holder by an angle to fasten the lamp holder to the base plate. There are red dot marks on the lamp holder and the eccentric ring. For disassembly, simply align the red dots with each other.

③ In principle, all objective lenses shall be fitted before observation. When installing or removing the objective lens, raise the stage to avoid collision with the lens. If a certain magnification is required, select the eyepiece and objective lens by referring to the total magnification table.

④ When placing the specimen on the stage, position the observed surface at the center of the stage. For small specimens, fasten it with spring clips.

⑤ When focusing with the low-power objective lens, avoid collision between the lens and the specimen. Observe the objective lens from the side and lower the stage as far as possible until the lens nearly touches the specimen (do not make contact). Then observe through the eyepiece. First use the coarse adjustment knob until the image is initially visible, then switch to the fine adjustment knob to get a sharply defined image. Do not apply excessive force to prevent lens damage and poor image observation. When using a high-power objective lens or oil immersion objective lens, pay close attention to the limit marking line. Ensure the marking line on the support stays between the two marking lines outside the gearbox to leave an appropriate lifting allowance for fine movement. When turning the coarse adjustment knob, slowly lower the stage carefully. Once the outline of the image appears in the eyepiece field of view, immediately switch to the fine adjustment knob and focus properly until the image is clear.

⑥ Before using the oil immersion objective lens, raise the stage. Dip a smooth and clean small stick in a drop of cedar oil and apply it to the front lens of the objective. Take care not to hit the lens with the stick and do not apply excessive oil, otherwise the lens may be contaminated or damaged.
