Ten Maintenance Instructions for Optical Microscopes
(1) Be proficient in and strictly follow the operating procedures.
(2) When carrying the microscope, hold the arm with one hand and support the base with the other. Do not tilt the microscope, to prevent the eyepiece from sliding out of the top of the barrel. Handle the microscope gently during transportation.
(3) Do not move the microscope arbitrarily while observing specimens. (4) Only special lens tissue may be used to wipe all optical components of the microscope. Do not use other materials, and never touch the lenses with fingers, to avoid contamination by sweat.
(5) Keep the microscope dry and clean, and protect it from dust, water and chemical reagents. (6) When switching objectives, rotate the nosepiece only. Do not grip or turn the objective lenses directly.
(7) Do not turn the focusing knobs casually. Operate the fine focusing knob with light force and slow rotation. Do not force it if it gets stuck.
(8) Do not disassemble any microscope components. Unauthorized removal of objective lenses is strictly prohibited, as this may damage the threads of the nosepiece and cause parfocal failure between low-power and high-power objectives.
(9) Do not use the coarse focusing knob for focusing when using a high-power objective. Excessive movement may damage the objective lens and slide.
(10) Before returning the microscope after use, check whether the objective lenses are contaminated with water or reagents. Clean them if necessary, wipe the stage clean, place the microscope into its storage case and lock the case.
