The application of infrared night vision devices in the automotive industry

Driving at night, within the distance of the car illuminated by the high beams, the road conditions are clear and distinguishable, but there are always hidden dangers in the darkness ahead.

Despite significant advancements in automotive lighting technology over the years, the risks of driving at night are still much greater than during the day. There are often situations where you find someone changing tires on the roadside or pedestrians or livestock crossing the road in the light, and you are already caught off guard. General Motors also conducted a questionnaire survey on drivers, asking them to rate the 30 to 40 electronic devices on their cars based on their preferences. The survey results showed that the vast majority of drivers have a preference for car night vision systems and hope that their cars can be equipped with this device. The reason behind this is that safety airbags and ABS can only function in emergency situations, while car night vision systems are active safety devices that can prevent accidents in advance and greatly improve the safety of driving in special weather conditions.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, although nighttime driving only accounts for a quarter of all highway traffic, half of all fatal accidents occur. And accidents caused by nighttime vision account for 70% (2002 data)

But if you have a car infrared night vision device, then you are equivalent to having a pair of owl eyes with telescopes, because the night vision system on the car will help you see clearly the scenery in front of you outside the range of headlights, so you have foresight and can detect potential dangers in black vision early, greatly improving driving safety.

On the screen, the edges of the road, the markings in the middle of the road, objects on the road, and pedestrians preparing to cross the road can all be displayed. Therefore, car night vision devices can discover more things than front headlights, and can capture everything within twice the distance of high beam illumination. But the nature of this infrared imaging technology determines that the image you see is like a black and white television image. However, the lack of image quality in car night vision systems provides more compensation in terms of field of view.

The biggest beneficiaries of night vision systems will be nighttime car drivers, who can have greater braking and reaction space due to the greatly expanded safety distance. The car night vision system cannot replace the visual information obtained by the eyes. It only provides you with further road condition information when it is dark, especially when you cannot see clearly. Although car night vision systems can provide visual images 50 times higher than the human eye at night, we firmly oppose using ordinary car night vision systems as blind landing systems for airplanes. The car night vision system only expands the driver's field of view beyond the range of front lights. Therefore, before using the car night vision system, you must comply with national traffic regulations and turn on the width indicator headlights, otherwise it will not have a safety effect.,
