What is a gas detector, and what is its function?

What is a gas detector? Wuhan Juzhou Technology takes you to understand what a gas detector is. A gas detector is an instrument that can detect gases. There are many types of gas detectors, such as portable gas detectors, fixed gas detectors, composite gas detectors, single gas detectors, toxic gas detectors, combustible gas detectors, and so on.

Gas detectors can detect the concentration of gases in the environment, such as toxic and harmful gases or flammable gases in industrial production. They can quickly detect the various components and concentrations of gases in industrial production environments and obtain results quickly. When combustible or toxic gases leak in the environment and the gas detector detects that the gas concentration reaches the critical point set by the explosion or poisoning alarm, the alarm will emit an alarm signal to remind the staff to take safety measures.

Gas detectors mainly rely on gas sensors to detect gases. Gas sensors include electrochemical gas sensors, PID gas sensors, infrared gas sensors, catalytic combustion gas sensors, etc. Different gases require different gas sensors to detect gas concentration. The sensors used for various gases and environments are also different, and most can be divided into sensors used to detect toxic gas concentrations and sensors used to detect explosive concentrations of flammable gases.

Most sensors used to detect the concentration of toxic gases are electrochemical sensors, which work based on electrochemical principles. The main factor affecting their lifespan is the electrolyte. After 2-3 years, the electrolyte is consumed and the sensor can no longer function normally. Therefore, the service life of electrochemical sensors is 2-3 years. The sensors used to detect the concentration of combustible gases are mostly catalytic combustion sensors, with a service life of 3-5 years.
