How to Judge Whether a Gas Detector Works Well
A combustible gas detector is vital alarm equipment that can effectively prevent explosion and poisoning accidents caused by gas leakage. Given its importance, how should we select such a device? Below is a brief analysis of how to judge whether a gas detector performs properly.
Many users may wonder how to verify if a purchased combustible gas detector works correctly. The test method is relatively simple. Most workshops keep test gas. Put a portion of test gas or liquid into a mineral water bottle and tighten the cap. Poke a small hole on the cap with a sharp object, aim the hole at the probe of the combustible gas detector, and observe whether the reading on the detector panel changes.
Special note: Some combustible substances exist in liquid form and volatilize slowly. Shake the mineral water bottle during the test to accelerate volatilization. In addition, fixed gas detectors generally adopt natural diffusion mode. The device responds only when leaked gas diffuses to the detector.
If the above method is inconvenient, a lighter can be used for a simple reading test. Light the lighter and blow out the flame without releasing your hand, so the lighter keeps releasing gas. Aim the gas outlet at the detector probe. Do not keep this operation for too long. The combustible gas released by the lighter has an extremely high concentration. Prolonged exposure may exceed the measuring range of the detector and shorten its service life if operated repeatedly.
It is more difficult to verify the reading accuracy of the gas detector. You need to know the standard concentration of the test gas and compare it with the detector reading (partial error is permitted according to national standards). If the readings are consistent or the deviation is minor, the detector can measure accurately.
